Sally has an agricultural science degree and a PhD in plant physiology. She has worked in research and predominately in development related to agricultural programming in Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Sally grew up on a farm and has a passion for empowering women farmers. Since 2011, Sally has worked with ActionAid. She has recently worked extensively throughout East Africa, including projects for access to justice by women in the Great Lakes Region (Uganda, Kenya, DRC and Burundi) with a strong focus on women’s land rights, extractives governance in Uganda and Kenya, including mining affected communities (who are usually women and men farmers with threats of displacement and to their farming) and artisanal and small-scale miners; and gender responsive alternatives to climate change in the Rift Valley in Kenya.
