At the heart of sustainable development is local leadership and local ownership. In this closing panel, panelists will be invited to consider critical questions for the future of civil society – such as how international development NGOs can purposefully and meaningfully ensure that the people they wish to serve are placed at the centre of their work, and how to move this conversation from rhetoric into action. What legacies must be overcome by foreign policy and development actors if we are to get behind localisation and create a radically different looking picture for development assistance in the future? The first half of this panel will consider the challenges and the second half will discuss the way forward.
Moderator: Josie Pagani (CID NZ) and panellists:
• Dr Aqueel Khan, Association for Stimulating Know-How, India
• Davaajargal Batdorj, Director of programs and cooperation, Mongolian Red Cross
• Teela Reid. Wiradjuri and Wailwan, Lawyer and Advocate
