Mittul Vahanvati specializes in design-led transformations and co-creation of knowledge around issues of housing, ecologically sustainable built environment, housing, disaster recovery and community resilience. 

Mittul has more than 13 years of architectural industry experience in Australia, Switzerland and India. She is co-founder of a Melbourne-based design + build studio, Giant Grass (GG), and an eco-friendly product brand, Made of Bamboo. As director of GG, Mittul has worked with grassroots communities through over 70 skills building workshops with co-design and co-building approaches. She has co-authored the book Co-building with Bamboo (2015). 

Mittul’s PhD research investigated long-term impacts of post-disaster housing reconstruction projects in terms of community resilience. She is currently the lead researcher working with regional communities in Victoria to co-produce their resilience action plan.
