Mara has been a non-executive director of Australian Ethical since 2013 and brings more than 20 years of business and community experience to the board. Her diverse executive career has spanned finance, research, non-profit and consulting.

Company director and adviser to companies, governments and research agencies, Mara was raised in Brazil, educated in the US, and has been calling Australia home for 30 years.

She is President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, Chairman of Gold Coast Waterways Authority, and Non-Executive Director of Enova Community Energy.

In her consulting roles Mara leads strategy and development at Food Agility Cooperative Research Centre, and had the opportunity to catalyse design-led workshops in Addis Ababa earlier this year aimed at transforming global livestock research towards greater impact in the lives of smallholder farmers in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She also leads sustainability and data strategy for Simba Global a large commercial linen provider that is advancing circular economy textile solutions and ethical sourcing through supply chains in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and China.

Previously, Mara has worked for The Wilderness Society, Greenpeace Australia, CHOICE, the CSIRO, Macquarie Bank, Morgan Stanley, and as a director of Allen Consulting Group. She also worked for The World Bank on an earthquake reconstruction project in Nepal. Mara was a Director/Treasurer on the Board of Bush Heritage Australia for ten years and a member of the NSW Sustainable Energy Development Authority Advisory Council for six years.
