Makkiya Jawed is on the board of Sehat Kahani, a Pakistan-based health-tech company that aims to democratize healthcare by connecting home-based qualified female physicians to patients in need via tele-medicine, bridging the gap between the untapped resource of female health professionals and underserved, often marginalized populations in need of quality primary healthcare.

Currently, as part of The Fleming Fund, Makkiya is working at Development Alternatives Incorporated Pakistan on improving Antimicrobial Surveillance across Pakistan. She has also been associated with leadership positions with DEMO Enterprises, Tech Valley Conference and TEDx Islamabad.

During her journey in the development sector, Makkiya has been awarded the World Bank Global Youth Summit Jury Award and recognized as Internet Society’s 25 Under 25 Honorable Mention recipients. Winner of the MIT Business Acceleration Competition and UNICEF MHM Innovation Challenge, Makkiya has also been a mentor to Zimba Women and a judge at UNDP SDG Changemakers.
